About Gothenburg Karate Open
The tournament was established in 2003 as a youth competition. Over the years, the event has developed and the number of categories has expanded.
Before the pandemic, the competition was held twice per year: a pure kumite competition in the autumn, and a combined kata and kumite event in the spring.
Liseberg Amusement Park has always been a major attraction for the competition.

RULES
- WKF rules effective from 1 January 2026 and Swedish rules for children’s competitions.
- Body protector are obligatory to wear for all in kumite.

EQUIPMENT
- All protective equipment must be WKF-approved.
- For all children’s categories, 10 to 13 years old in kumite, are WKF helmet and external body protector obligatory to wear.
- Body protectors under the karate-gi, WKF-approved, are also obligatory for cadets, juniors, and seniors.
- Please note that the organizer will not provide any equipment for loan.
- Competitors must bring their own protective equipment.
Duo Kata
Duo Kata (Two children perform kata simultaneously on the tatami) will be applied for children aged 10 and 11 years.
